For over 100 years, ever since Jean Neuhaus, Jr invented the Belgian praline in 1912, all Neuhaus pralines and truffles have always been made entirely in Belgium, still overseen by our Maître Chocolatiers. It is our firm commitment to keep it that way.

Jean Neuhaus was a pharmacist and originally a Swiss with Italian roots. During a visit there, he fell in love with Belgium and subsequently moved to Brussels in 1857. That same year, he opened an apothecary in Galerie de la Reine, in the heart of the city. To delight his customers, Jean Neuhaus covered his medicines with a thin layer of the finest chocolate.

In 1912, Jean Neuhaus Jr., evolved his grandfather’s creation by replacing the medicine center with smooth chocolate ganaches and pralinés. And so the original Belgian praline as we know it today was born: chocolate filled with delight instead of medicine.

In 1915, Jean Neuhaus Jr. invented this elegant gift box to protect his chocolates and present them attractively. The ballotin would go on to become an iconic part of the Belgian chocolate tradition.

The creation of our chocolates is carried out only in Belgium, in our atelier in Brussels. These artisans represent the soul of the House, where quality is at the heart of our approach. The common thread that unites them is the pride of working for the inventor of the Belgian praline and the feeling of belonging to Belgium, cradle of the unique know-how of chocolate.

Always inventing

Neuhaus invented the Praline and we have never ceased inventing. We continue to be driven by a passion for innovation and a commitment to stay true to the standards of excellence our Master chocolatiers still uphold to this day. All of our pralines and truffles are still made entirely in Belgium in our Atelier near Brussels.
